Statistics of Surface Wind Effect on Ocean Colour Measured from Space
نویسندگان
چکیده
As it follows from both theoretical consideration and in-situ experiments, surface wind may significantly affect the ocean colour observed. This happens due to the variances of the surface roughness induced by the wind. The same effect may take place in satellite observations, but its detecting and estimation is usually complicated due to absence of independent information on “true” ocean colour. To overcome this problem a joint processing of optical and passive microwave remote data used for wind speed estimations (synchronous and well collocated) was suggested. In present work a previously proposed method for joint processing based on a model of nonlinear factor analysis and tested in numerical simulations was applied to actual remote data of MODIS and AMSR-E instruments for eleven-day interval of measurements in November, 2010. Remotely measured ocean colour was found to be sensitive to surface wind speed estimates. Results of these investigations are presented and discussed.

Investigation of Geostrophic and Ekman Surface Current Using Satellite Altimetry Observations and Surface Wind in Persian Gulf and Oman Sea
The rise of satellite altimetry is a revolution in the ocean sciences. Due to its global coverage and its high resolution, altimetry classically outperforms in situ water level measurement. Ekman and geostrophic currents are large parts of the ocean’s current, playing a vital role in global climate variations. According to the classic oceanography, Ekman and geostrophic currents can be calculat...

The wind drift motion of the water which is produced by the stress of the wind exerted upon the surface of the ocean is described by Ekmans theory (1905). Using the mean monthly values for the wind stress and SST, seasonal Ekman transport for the Persian Gulf was computed and contoured. The geostrophic winds have combined with the SST to estimate the effect of cooling due to Ekman transport o...

Abstract Wind induced wave is of great importance due to its high energy. In this study wave climate in the Gulf of Oman close to the Koohmobarak area is investigated. Wave climate study is necessary for determination of long-term analysis of wave statistics as well as climate change effects in the study area. First, wave climate is study using both measured and simulated wave data close to th...

[1] We study the polarization properties of the light field under a dynamic ocean surface using realistic linear and nonlinear ocean surface waves. The three-dimensional polarized radiative transfer of the dynamic ocean–atmosphere system is considered using a Monte Carlo vector radiative transfer simulation for arbitrary depth. The program is validated with measurement data taken in Hawaii duri...
